The Yiros Shop adapts business to successfully operate during COVID-19

To help combat the COVID-19 outbreak in Australia, restrictions set by the government allow restaurants and cafes to offer delivery and takeaway services only. This has deeply affected the restaurant industry however, The Yiros Shop, Brisbane’s most iconic and authentic Greek eats, has adapted to the new restrictions and is successfully operating.

The Yiros Shop has partnered with Bopple and introduced a new mobile ordering app offering pickup and delivery options for its loyal customers who want to enjoy their favourite Greek dishes at the comfort of their own home. The app features all five Queensland locations: Cannon Hill, Capalaba, James Street, Newmarket and South Bank.

Nick Mitrossilis, Founder and Director of The Yiros Shop said, “For The Yiros Shop it has shown us that even in the current climate when the whole world has nearly come to a halt, we are still able to successfully operate our business.

We are fortunate that our model runs off 60% dine in and 40% takeaway. We have been able to convert a majority of our dine in customers to either takeaway or delivery. The Yiros Shop has had its own mobile ordering app for pick up/ skip the line orders.

Since the COVID-19 restrictions forced us to close down our dine in side of our business, we had to adapt. So we are now delivering directly to the customers through our own app [Bopple]. This has been a great success over the last few weeks because we have full control of the order from the store to their door. It has given us the opportunity to keep our staff employed while our customers stay home and stay safe.”

“We believe that after these tough times are over and life begins to go back to normal, the lessons we have learnt and the way we have adapted with adding our own delivery service is going to benefit our business for the future. We will continue to grow from here and it will give our future franchisees something to look forward to with the extra value added to our business model.”

The Yiros Shop is engaging with their customers daily through social media and to thank their loyal customers who are supporting local businesses, they are running an self-isolation selfie social media competition across Facebook and Instagram, where the winner will receive a $50 The Yiros Shop delivery voucher. Incentives like this show there is still a strong community present which The Yiros Shop are giving back to.

The team is dedicated to connecting with customers and running the business successfully for the unforeseen future and are proving that adaptability is key for restaurants at this time.
