DC Strategy is excited to announce that the Parramatta store of global franchise, Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE) celebrated the win of the “Single Unit Franchisee of the Year, two or more staff”, held at the Excellence in Franchising Award ceremony.
This prestigious award recognises excellence in business management and franchise citizenship for franchisee owner operators (including partners) with two or more staff (full-time equivalent).
Owner of the Parramatta store, Charles Batt, a Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE) franchisee of 15-years, had set up and developed the Parramatta site into a noteworthy profitable centre in Australia.
Charles Batt shares his excitement about the award with the DC Strategy team:
How does it feel to be the leader of an award-winning team?
“It feels fantastic! But in many ways I’m just the visible figurehead. My team is amazing and clearly one of the keys to success in any business is to have the right staff. I always take the time to recruit carefully, looking for attitude and cultural fit – providing training as needed after they start”.
What led you to owning an MBE franchise?
“After a long corporate career, a redundancy coincided with my itch to be self-employed and accelerated my search for the right business.
My initial plan was to buy an existing small business, but found quite quickly that for the money I had to spend I was only buying the knowledge in the outgoing owner's head. That was far too much risk for me.
I attended a Franchising show and listened to one of the successful MBE franchisees speak passionately about the group. I quickly realised that buying into a Franchise provides ongoing access to a wealth of knowledge and support from both the Franchisor and the other Franchisees.
The business-to-business model, with no need for weekend or evening work, was perfect”.
What top 3 tips/advice would you share with existing and potential MBE franchise owners for running a successful MBE Business?
1) “Do your homework, and ensure there is a good match between your skills and interests with the MBE business model”.
2) “Recruit staff, even if it’s just one person initially, to fill the gaps in your skills (no-one is good at everything)”.
3) “Embrace the network and support available through the Franchisor and other Franchisees. Deliberately contribute to the success of the group, and you’ll be rewarded with everyone returning those favours”.
What’s next for MBE Parramatta?
“I’m always looking for ways to grow. MBE is very supportive of creative ways to generate new business and I work very closely with them to take advantage of that”.
Boasting thousands of entrepreneurs in more than 40 countries around the world, Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE) holds a mature establishment of 30+ years globally.
